MY STORY

I was fortunate to work with one of the best sales managers on the planet, Michael Kuehn.

He had a way of always knowing what to say, when to say it, and exactly how. With clients, coworkers, bosses, and his team. Much of the effective sales language and skills I learned were because of him, even though I had read tons of books and been to seminars. That stuff was good, just never as good as his stuff.

What was the difference?

Michael cared and I knew he had my best interest at heart. Michael was unique. Michael used his gifts, talents, and abilities to help me develop in a personalized way the books and seminars couldn’t.

He wanted me to grow. He invested time into me. He was interested in me, as a person, not simply an employee who could help him reach his goals. He wanted to know what made me tick, what ticked me off, and how to get the best from me.

To do that, he learned about me. He talked to me.

He let his quirkiness shine, giving me permission to do the same and show up more authentically.

And he constantly coached me. Caught me doing things right. Helped me see a better path forward when things didn’t go as well as they could have. Empathized when I blew it.

After a sales call he’d call me into his office and ask, “How’d that call go?”

It didn’t matter if it was great or garbage, his approach was always the same. Ask questions, listen, ask more questions, encourage me, affirm my thoughts, and only when needed did he add his insight.

As a result, I reached levels of professional success that would not have happened. As a result, I was a better salesperson, better communicator, and better person. As a result, he helped me develop into a self-reliant sales person comfortable and confident enough to bring my best to work every day.
